Description

Performs data collection, recording and analyzing of Trauma/Burn patients necesary for the completion of the required State trauma registry and relatd hosptial reports utilizing a computerized registry software program. Mines data from a variety of sources to complete required data elements. Performs duties in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy standards.

Job Responsibilities

Safety and Risk Management:

Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate preventable and corrective action.
Coordination of Services:

a. Functions as a preceptor.
b. Coordinates workflow by communicating relative information and data to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
c. Demonstrates ability to direct and/or assist with the work activities of the Department consistent with the needs and staffing capabilities.
d. Identifies and resolves problems related to job role.
e. Participates in performance improvement activities that ensure and enhance quality of patient care and/or reporting mechanisms.
Complex Aspects:

a. Performs concurrent and retrospective extraction of pertinent patient information utilizing a computer / laptop.
b. Identifies trauma patients using state criteria reviewing ED charts and other PI data elements; the hospital network system and electronic health record.
c. Prepares data appropriately on monthly basis for transmission to the state of Missouri.
d. Performs data validation on a regular basis.
e. Assists with coordination of activities at Trauma Grand Rounds and annual Trauma Care Conference.
f. Produces reports from the registry as they relate to trauma program

Primary Aspects:

a. Demonstrates proper time management skills and priority setting.
b. Demonstrates ability to assess and identify needs of patient and fellow coworkers.
c. Maintains continuing education relative to practice.
d. Responsible for information at Department meetings, inservice, bulletin boards and other postings.
Communication Management:

a. Communicates patient/staff goals, objectives and changes to other healthcare team members and utilizes input to revise care/operational plan for optimum patient/departmental outcomes.
b. Makes independent decisions in routine and complex situations and informs appropriate persons.
c. Focuses attention and communication on the individual being served offering clear, concise information.
Technology:

a. Demonstrates competence in initiating and maintaining use of routine equipment and procedures.
b. Assists in evaluation of new products, equipment, policies, procedures and standards.
c. Attends lectures, workshops, classes to stay abreast of al new technology relevant to position/duties.

Job Requirements

  • Qualification 1: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Qualification 2: Related health care or registry experience.

Preferred Education: Knowledge of anatomical and medical terminology preferred.

 

Preferred Experience: Preferred Certifications: RHIT (Registered Health Information Technologist) preferred. Prefer ART certification or college degreed RRT.

 

Other: Laptop and desktop computer knowledge and operation. Knowledge of diagnostic and ICD 9-10 coding required. Computer proficiency and knowledge of Windows based programs required.
