The Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator working in conjunction with the Director of Trauma Services and Trauma Medical Director, assists in providing quality care to an assigned group of patients.  The Trauma PI Coordinator is responsible for planning, designing, delivering, and evaluation of education activities to meet the trauma-related needs of all departments.  The Trauma PI Coordinator participates in performance improvement activities as directed.  The Trauma PI Coordinator is responsible for meeting State of Tennessee Trauma Center Standards as well as JC standards, complying with all state and federal regulations, complying with corporate and hospital policy procedures, and promoting teamwork and positive customer service.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Abstracts data from the patient’s chart including: demographic characteristics, history of injuries, and modalities according to established guidelines/reviews in conformance with the TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center Trauma Registry
  2. Tracks Trauma patients throughout hospital stay and monitors for outcomes on Trauma patients
  3.  Completes Performance Improvement activities through concurrent review of patient care data for trends and early identification of complications and provides evidence of loop closure
  4.  Has working knowledge of the Tennessee Department of State Health Services Trauma care standards in all hospital settings
  5.  Serves as a member of Multidisciplinary Trauma Process Improvement Committee meetings, assisting in writing agendas and submitting to medical staffing
  6.  Prepares cases for review in Trauma Peer Review meetings, keeps minutes and binders organized
  7.  Intervenes and resolves trauma related issues that may have a negative quality or cost outcomes
  8.  Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.  Performance will be evaluated in terms of: a) level of participation; b) completion by due date; c) adherence to instructions; d) accuracy
  9.  Coordinates care to achieve targeted outcome through the use of evidenced based practice
  10.  Promotes collaborative practice between departments and identifies need for consultations
  11.  Documentation in the medical record all interactions, interventions, education and information pertaining to patient care
  12.  Report pertinent patient care data on trauma patients to the Director of Trauma
  13.  Collaborates with discharge planning and Social Work to coordinate plan of care and discharge
  14.  Collaborates with Director of Trauma and other departments to establish trauma standards and protocols
  15.  Assist Director Trauma in providing injury prevention education to patients, family, staff, and the surrounding community

Job Requirements

  • Has a minimum of 3-years Emergency Department, Critical Care, or Trauma Nursing care
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Current, unencumbered Tennessee licensure with the State Board of Nurse Examiners
  • Certifications:
    • BLS
    • TNCC
    • ACLS
    • PALS
    • Trauma Outcomes Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) within twelve months of employment
    • Preferred TNCC Instructor Certification within eighteen months of employment
