The Trauma Registrar is accountable for organizing and maintaining a current log of trauma patients. The registrar is also held accountable for the data entry, report generation and coordinating the ORMC Trauma Registry and the Utah State Trauma Registry.


Job Responsibilities

The Registrar is responsible for abstraction of patient clinical data from EMR’s and entering data into databases for tracking, trending and analysis for statistical data reporting.  The individual must have the knowledge to accurately interpret data definitions, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and communicate both verbally and in writing quality patient measures.
The individual will demonstrate an attention to detail, proficiency and accuracy in abstracting clinical data from both internal (HPF, Meditech) and external databases, entering data into databases and/or registries, running validation studies, and timely uploads to respective national data bases in accordance with company and external accrediting bodies’ policies and procedures.  Statistical presentation preparation would be expected.
  • Coordinates the activities of the trauma registry to include chart requisition and review.
  • Documents identification, data collection, and data entry of information for trauma patients.
  • Collects demographics characteristics, history of injuries, diagnostic procedures, diagnosis and other related information from the patient’s medical record.
  • Assists with the quality control of trauma identification, abstracting, coding and data processing, procedures and audits of quality control.
  • Attends to other duties as assigned by the Trauma Coordinator/Director.

Job Requirements

Experience:  2-5 years of clerical experience in a hospital or medical setting

Knowledge of ISC-90 coding and ICD10 and CPT

Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Anatomy

Effective communication and computer skills


Education:  Associates degree preferred


Licensure/Certification/Registration: Obtain specific registry competency and/or certifications if available within 3 years of hire. AIS coding class must be taken within 2 years of hire (Trauma Registrar Only)
