Performs hospital-based coding and injury scaling and provides burn-related data to the burn service team. Monitors each burn case through the continuum of care within the Hospital to identify cases, extract necessary information and report it for inclusion in the burn registry database in an accurate and timely manner.

Job Responsibilities

Identifies all patient cases that meet criteria for inclusion in the burn registry database, abstracts patient medical records and enters relevant data to maintain the Hospital’s burn registry containing information on all cases identified in Standard XVIII.B.2.a and XVIII.B.2.b including the following: Medical record number, mechanism of injury, injury severity score, discharge diagnosis (es) (with minimum narrative description of top 10 diagnoses), discharge date, case criterion (a) from section B. 1.a through B.1.e, applicable indicators that identified cases for review, quality improvement review date, and quality improvement review disposition

Utilizes burn registry software to submit all pertinent data to the state Division of Emergency Medical Operations, Office of Trauma/Burn, Trauma/Burn Registry Program in accordance with the Florida Trauma Registry Manual, adopted by Rule 64E-2.018, Florida Administrative Code.

Analyzes registry data and disseminates burn information or reports.

Demonstrates proficiency on burn registry, communications and ensure accuracy and completeness of work and documentation within appropriate timeframe.

Demonstrates a thorough understanding, accurate interpretation and knowledge of the standards that regulate burn registry activities.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

One year previous experience in a registrar role  ( Previous Trama Registry Experience or Equivalent ICD-9 and CPT Coding experience preferred

Board Certified Trauma Registry preferred

Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills/Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, etc.
