The Trauma Registrar under the direction of the Trauma Services Supervisor and Trauma Medical Director is responsible for utilizing ICD-10 CM Injury Severity Coding and QA/PI knowledge to abstract information from identified trauma medical records as required to complete the trauma registry. Trauma Registrar must follow the National Trauma Databank standards in the abstraction and trauma registry entering of data. This includes maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of the registry.
Education: High School Diploma. Preference for Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or other health related field.
Licensure/Certifications: Previous trauma registry experience preferred. Knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint programs. ICD-10 CM experience or training preferred. Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s (AAAM) Injury Scaling 2005/2008 experience preferred. Completion of Trauma Registrar Course and the AAAM Injury Scaling Course required within 12 months of hire is required. Completion of a minimum of 8 hours of registry-specific continuing education per year is required. Trauma Registry Certification (CSTR) preferred. Completion of formal human anatomy/physiology and medical terminology course work beyond high school education preferred.
Experience: Prior experience with Clinical Documentation Management (CDM) preferred.
